COMMENTARY ON THIS WEEK'S TOP 50:

Hello everyone...hope everyone is ready for the upcoming holiday season (I know I'm not)...anyway, I am posting my chart via email for now as I have been doing school work and real work and shopping all week and haven't had much change to update the website.  My weekend is booked with family stuff but early next week I should have the opportunity to update it.  I will certainly let each of you know via email when it is updated.

Anyway...an exciting week on my chart as a lot of things happen....

"Rise" by Gabrielle sets the record at 23 weeks in the top 10 as the title falls to #16 in its 26th chart week.  The song still has a good chance of finishing first for the year but is facing stiff competition from "Lovin' You" and "Stronger" by Kristine W, two songs that are also trying to steal the title from the current #1 for 2000--"Stand in Love" by Kristine W.  Gabrielle's one week #1 got somewhat lost in the shuffle this week and I didn't give it the attention it has received for the past six months.  The song could surely rebound but with the strong new charting records, I don't know if a rebound to the top 10 is likely.

BIG MOVERS ABOUND...
"Girl from the Gutter" by Kina sets its own record this week as it moves 22 positions to #24 and gains an amazing 47 points.  Both the jump up the chart and the point gain are chart records and this song looks well on its way to becoming a top 10 hit (keep in mind that "They Say It's Gonna Rain" by Hazell Dean held the previous record at 20 positions and 40 points but failed to peak any higher than #3).  Kina's cd single for "Girl" had been sitting on my cd rack since way earlier this year and I never even opened it.  Well one day, I was reading about the song and decided to open it.   I couldn't get the sticker off to open the cd single so I downloaded the Hex Hector remix from Napster...whew!!...if you haven't heard it, go get it NOW!!!

Coming in second in chart moves this week is Da Buzz with "Let Me Love You," which rockets twelve positions to #14.  I think this is one of the best pop records made in recent years.  Definitely one to check out (and watch out for!!)

Erasure's "Freedom," fueled by a Motiv8 remix, continues to move up the charts again as it mosies ten positions to #23.  The song originally hit #9 several weeks ago and then fell to #38 before rebounding last week.

From the movie "Flawless" is Bruce Roberts featuring Elton John and Kristine W on "When the Money's Gone."  I just recently discovered this song (I have yet to see the movie although I hear it's phenomenal) and it jumps ten places to #29.

After a single week at #1, Tina Cousins third chart topper slips back to #2 but is still going strong there.  The song was replaced by Destiny's Child and their first #1 hit "Independent Women Part 1."  I expect these songs to run a tight race for the #1 spot next week.  However, playing threat to the top 2 is Rockell's cover of Garth Brooks' "The Dance," which hit #24 on my chart back in 1992 (I'm almost certain it was 92).  The song blasts into the top 5 and continues to gain points at a rapid pace.  Also a threat is the second top 50 for Madonna from her MUSIC project.  "Don't Tell Me" moves into the top 10 at #8 and is looking promising for scoring Madonna a second #1 from the album.

Charlotte scores their first top 10 hit with the #1 club tune "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark."  If some of you remember, Charlotte's 1999 club smash "Skin" was listed as one of my songs that should have charted but didn't tunes of 1999.  I think because of this tune and a couple of others in 1999, I am more free this year to chart older tunes that I have just discovered.

Kylie Minogue currently has three charting tunes on the Top 50, a feat done only by a handful of artists--among them Steps, Kristine W, and Tina Cousins.  Minogue joins the ranks of these hit makers with her fifth top 50 of the year, "Please Stay," from her KYLIE album.  She hit the top 10 with "In Denial"-with the PSB (#4), "Spinning Around" (#6), and is currently charting with "On A Night Like This" (#1) and "Kids" (#12 and gaining).  Kylie has had a standup year on the Top 50 and it was a welcome return after almost a decaded's absence.

Three other artists make their Top 50 debuts this week.  David Gray's "Walking Away" comes in just behind Minogue at #44.  I can't even remember how I found this song, but it a wonderful tune.  Next is Sarah-esque Fisher with "I Will Love You."  Following is another fairly mellow song, "Babylon" by David Gray, bowing at #49.

With Christmas just around the corner and my cd list circling family and friends, the next couple of charts could prove very interesting for some artists.  Until next time...

Enjoy.
