The Music's Good with Cher...After seven weeks atop the chart (a feat accomplished only be Madonna's "Justify My Love," Kristine W's "Lovin' You," and Kylie Minogue's "Your Disco Needs You"), Aubrey's "Stand Still" makes way for Cher's first single international single from LIVING PROOF called "The Music's No Good Without You"...the song has received lukewarm reception globally--a far cry from the #1 success of "Believe"--but it has been waiting patiently at #2 for the past four weeks...noteworthy, however, is that Cher really gets the boost in sales and not airplay as I received my copy of the album this week and have been listening to it a lot because it's new...Aubrey manages to maintain a bullet as her hit falls a notch to #2 and she could very well steal the top spot back from Cher next week...the rest of the top 3 maintain their positions with Gabrielle's "Don't Need the Sun to Shine..." holding #3 for an amazing fifth week...Pink and Madonna hold #4 and #5, respectively...truly any of these songs could be atop the chart next week while there are really no threats to break this strong top 5 anywhere in the 20--except for IIO's "Rapture," which is COMBO HIT at #20 this week...

Sibling Rivalry?...Danni Minogue, featured as the vocalist on Riva's first Top 50 hit "Who Do You Love Now?" is this week's SALES HIT...the song blasts up eleven notches from #32 to #21 in its third chart week...just as Danni moves up the chart, sister Kylie falls from the Top 50 with "Butterfly" and slides from #16 to #23 with her three-week #1 smash "Can't Get You Out of My Head"...it should be interesting to see the chart pattern of this smash hit as it picks up steam in the US...according to Billboard.com, Capitol's release of the US album combo of LIGHT YEARS and FEVER by Kylie is early 2002 and "Can't..." is being promoted as the first single...

From the Deck of the LOVEBOAT...Erasure is watching "Moon and the Sky" takes AIRPLAY HIT as it moves eight positions to #33 this week...the song is charting faster than any of the album's other Top 50 hits (which include: "Freedom," "Crying in the Rain," and "Here in My Heart")...unlike previous albums by my favorite British synth pop act, LOVEBOAT has really failed to pull any major hit--their last album COWBOY produced a string of top 10 hits that began in 1997 and finished in 1999...the duo's last #1 hit was the incredible "Save Me Darling" in 1999...a lot of the lack of success was my not owning the actual album but rather a burned cd with all but two of the album tracks on it...now that I have a copy of the actual cd, it's quite possible that the Top 50 will see an increase in chart success from the album's songs...

Wilde and Loved...Kim Wilde is having an incredible comeback to the Top 50...the B-side to her current single "Kids in America 2001" moves up to #16 this week and has a really good shot at the top 10 in the next couple of weeks, while the single's A-side, the new tune called "Loved" breaks into the Top 50 at #37...if you haven't heard this song, let me recommend it to you now...it's fantastic and one of my faves that Wilde has recorded..."Loved" is this week's DEBUT HIT...

Crystal Waters, come on down...Yup, that's right...as embarrassing as it is to be charting a song that is built around the Price is Right theme music, it's even more embarrassing to say that the lyrics are rather clever and I like it...Waters has certainly done better in past releases, but if you can get past the PIR theme music, "Come on Down"--which debuts at #49--is a worthy dance record...

Is That Girl Madonna?...No, it sure isn't but it's Madonna's tune...Who's That Girl offers a dance version of "The Power of Good-bye" which is pretty decent...I've loved what Blond Ambition has done with "Crazy for You" and "Live to Tell," but Who's That Girl has done far better with one of my favorite Madonna songs...a review that I read about it said that it could even be better than Madonna's version--I think not, but it certainly gets close...the song debuts at #40 this week and is Who's That Girl's first appearance on the Top 50...

It's Reina-ing Again...After hitting #4 earlier this year with the fantastic "Miss the Way" with Razor n Guido, Reina returns to the chart this week with another great dance record..."Got a Love for You" is your standard dance fare and is billed to Heaven featuring Reina...the song bows at #45...Garbage, who saw #1 status with "Stupid Girl," returns to the Top 50 with "Cherry Lips (Remix)"...the original version of the song can be found on BEAUTIFUL GARBAGE...Angelic scores a first Top 50 with a decent dance tune at #50 called "Stay With Me"...

Resteered Spears...Britney reverses her movement this week and is back up two places to #13 with "I"m a Slave 4 U"...the song spent two weeks at #9 but then fell to #15 last week...fueled by a Thunderpuss remix, the song is able to make a turnaround and could very well revisit the top 10...Geri Halliwell is on the cusp of her third top 10 hit as "Calling" moves up to #11 this week...I fully expect the song to jump into the top 10 next week as I've downloaded and am listening to the Metro Mix of the record...check it out if you haven't already...

Reaching For the Records...Of special note this week, Gabrielle's "Out of Reach" is approaching a couple of chart milestones...in its 38th week on the chart, the song is one week away from tying the longest chart run (currently held by Kristine W's "Lovin' You" from 2000)...there is no doubt that Gabrielle, in two weeks, will hit the 40-week mark and the song even has the chance to make it an entire 52 weeks on the survey...also, "Out o Reach" spends its 20th non-consecutive week in the top 10 this week..."Lovin' You" scored 25 non-consecutive weeks in the top 10--more than 50% of its chart life...although this record will be a tough one to beat, it is most definitely in Gabrielle's 'reach'...

As I've hinted to above, next week's chart should be interesting as the top 5 will battle it out again for the top spot, this time with the top 2 being a little less stable...should be interesting...also, look for even more new music from the likes of Natalie Merchant, Suzanne Vega, Samantha Mumba, Suzanne Palmer, Jennifer Holliday, Infinito and Kym Mazelle, Ricky Martin, S Club 7, Melanie Thornton, Kylie Minogue, and Atomic Kitten...
