The REVENGE of RAY OF LIGHT...Madonna debuts the song "Revenge" this week at #41...the tune, a track originally recorded for 1998's RAY OF LIGHT but left off of the track listing, leaked to the internet in the last two weeks and even received some airplay on at least one radio station in Miami...the song itself was rumoured to be her upcoming James Bond theme (and it could really be from a James Bond film), but "Die Another Day," her next official single, will not be released until late September or early October...Madonna last charted in 2002 with "Paradise (Not For Me)," a tune from the 2000 MUSIC album that hit the top 20...prior to that Madonna hit #1 late in 2001 with "Impressive Instant"...

Two Feel In...The Sugababes continue to move up the chart with the current #1 UK tune "Round Round" and the song moves three positions on a rather stagnant chart--making its way from #10 to #7...on Monday, August 26, ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES hits stores in the UK and the Babes are expected to have a hit album to follow their two #1 hits ("Freak Like Me" also hit #1 here and in the UK)...at #38, however, we digress to 2000-2001 when the original three Sugababes released their debut album ONE TOUCH...while critically acclaimed, the album didn't do as well as hoped...I've been listening to that album more and more these days and as a result, "One Foot In," an album track from that album, is this week's DEBUT HIT at #38...The Babes scored several hits from the album in 2000 and 2001: "Overload" hit #28; "Run for Cover" hit #4; "Just Let it Go" hit #1; "Soul Sound" hit #1; and "New Year" hit #6..."One Foot In" is probably my fave song by the Babes...

Singles Get the Best of Her...Sophie Ellis Bextor continues to assault the charts with non-album singles...this week, her latest (and third Top 50--she was not featured on the version of Spiller's "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)" that I charted in 2000) called "Music Gets the Best of Me" moves to #32 and takes COMBO HIT...her first Top 50, "Murder on the Dancefloor," could resurface as it is received a US airplay push and will likely see a single release here in the states...that song hit #4 on the chart while its follow-up, the catchy "Get Over You" hit #1...

Many Minogues...what would the Top 50 be at this point without the name Minogue in at least one chart position...2002 has been the year of the Minogues as Kylie has racked up hit after hit and even holds four of this week's Top 50 positions (two of which are in the top 10)...Dannii, Kylie's little sister, scored a #3 hit earlier this year with Riva on "Who Do You Love Now?"...the song even charted a second time and peaked in the top 30...now, as promised after the success of that UK single with Riva, Dannii is back and is trudging up the chart--moving from #50 to #40 this week and taking the dual award of SALES/AIRPLAY HIT with her funky "Put the Needle on It"...

There isn't a lot of other chart action as it's been a rather slow week for me musically and the chart is seeing a clog of songs (since there is so much great music to chart right now, but only so many positions)...also, we see several records take dives this week more or less because it has taken them so long to make the chart that they're losing energy quickly (see DeeDee, Milky, DJ Sammy, Anastacia)...
