Broken Records...Love Inc. scoots into the #1 spot with "Broken Bones" after three weeks at #2 behind the four-week #1 "River Divides" by Kristine W...W is certainly not down for the count yet as her record is still strong and could easily return to the pole position in the coming weeks..."...Bones" is fueled by a weekend trip to the beach in airplay and is given the extra push to take the top as it is featured on a new cd I burned this week...next week's top spot is up the air yet again as W, Abigail, and Mandy Moore will all make a go for #1...

Record Breaking...Kristine W is also just one position away from having what I believe will be a Top 50 record (I don't have the energy or the time to investigate so we'll assume it is a record)...If this week's #11 hit "Let Love Reign (Remix)" can move into the top 10 next week and W's "Someone (Watching Over Me)" can hold onto a spot in the top 10, she will become the first artist ever to have four concurrent top 10 hits...the record will be tough to get as "Someone..." is charting solely on its album version as I have been unable to find the rumored circuit mixes of the song...

Quicker Than a Ray of Light...Dolly Parton's "Shine" makes an incredible move from #32 to #19 this week and takes the COMBO HIT award...Parton had modest success in the early 90's when she charted with songs such as "Romeo," "Full Circle," and the top 20 hit "Eagle When She Flies"...it should be interesting to see how this bluegrass cover tune of the Collective Soul hit manages against such chart powerhitters as Kristine W, Gabrielle, and Da Buzz...

Yes, the Way She Feels is Sexual...Amber makes another ten position move this week with her latest Hex Hector remixed tune "Yes," stealing AIRPLAY/SALES HIT...Amber has charted top 20 with all of her hits, including the #1's "This is Your Night," "The Colour of Love," "One More Night," "Sexual (Li Da Di)," and "Above the Clouds"..."Yes" should easily score her a ninth top 10 hit ("If You Could Read My Mind" #2, "Object of Your Desire" #9, and "Love One Another" #4)...Amber also scored top 20 hits earlier this year with "Do That To Me One More Time" and "Taste the Tears"...

Dammit Janet..."Someone to Call My Lover" by Janet Jackson slips to #31 after a single week at #16...this second single from ALL FOR YOU stalled after slowly making its way into the top 20...the album's title track and first single hit #9 earlier this year...Jackson last hit #1 with the sensational "Together Again" from her last album THE VELVET ROPE...

Maybe?...Could Toni Braxton's latest charter "Maybe (Remix)" break her from her slump...Toni's first two albums each produced at least one #1 but her third release THE HEAT produced the #9 "He Wasn't Man Enough" and the #11 "Spanish Guitar (Remix)"...Braxton is facing hefty competition in the top 20 of the chart and just under the top 20 as Da Buzz is taking the chart region by storm with "Believe in Love," the group's latest in a string of successful top 20 hits...O-Town is going to take "All or Nothing" as a remixed version of their top 3 Billboard hit soars up five positions to #15...Vanessa Amorosi is out for her highest charting single as "Have A Look" moves into the position at which her first Top 50 hit "Absolutely Everybody" peaked...Just below #20, The Sugababes and Madonna are both following up #1 hits with "Soul Sound" and "Amazing"...Madonna should get a boost next week as her concert is Friday night and I'm expecting to be listening a lot to MUSIC and RAY OF LIGHT over the next several days...

Scream If You're a Believer...Smashmouth takes the DEBUT HIT with a deserving cover of the Monkees' "I'm A Believer"...the song was everywhere last weekend at the beach so I decided to download it and put it on a cd...Geri Halliwell charts at #45 with the title track to her latest album "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster"...the song in its original form is a yawner but the Sleaze Brothers Anthem Mix is well worth a listen or two...don't expect another "Mi Chico Latino" but this was does have some chart potential...Human League returns to the chart for the first time since 94 or 95 when they charted with "Tell Me When"..."All I Ever Wanted" is their latest single in the UK and sticks to the group's old formula for electronic pop...Jennifer Paige makes her fourth appearance on the Top 50 with "These Days" (thanks Sammy for making me aware of this one)...Paige had top 10 hits with "Crush," "Sober," and "Always You" in 1998 and 1999...

What Goes Up Must Go Down...Kristine W's "River Divides" isn't the only record on this week's chart facing a downward move...Melissa Etheridge's "I Want to Be in Love" slides to #5 after three weeks at #3...don't count this one out yet as the top 10 is just chock full of powerful records so it's obvious that something would have to give...Kristine W's "Someone (Watching Over Me)" holds at #9 a second week...Robbie Williams settles for two weeks at #10 with "Let Love be Your Energy," which slides down to #14 this week...Lee Ann Womack's hopes of dancing to #1 with the remix of her #3 hit "I Hope You Dance" are shattered as the song plummets to #24 after two weeks at #6...CeCe Penniston peaks at #17 with "Lifetime to Love" and slips back to #25 this week...Fragma seems to have missed a hit with "The Ride (Remix)" which slips to #49 after spending a second week at #47...the song will likely fall from the Top 50 next week...

Noteworthy...Surreal's "Always on My Mind" is growing on me more and more each day and this week the group's first Top 50 hit moves from #33 to #26...Gabrielle's "Over You" and Information Society's "Running 2001" are making efforts to hang on in a crowded top 10 as both are able to move a notch to #7 and #6, respectively...I expect this songs will be contenders for #1 over the next several weeks...

I hope everyone is enjoying life...the next several weeks are incredibly busy for me with Madonna next weekend and a possible trip to the mountains afterward, family stuff the following weekend, Tampa the weekend after, school beginning on Aug 30th, and a move planned for sometime between the middle of Sept and the end of Sept...just know that my chart will be done weekly and will be posted, although for some weeks, it may not be posted until Monday or Tuesday...Also, for those who are interested.."Mt. Vernon Square" will return at the end of August or right around Labor Day...I've written the first two episodes of the new season and just have to post them...
