COMMENTARY ON THIS WEEK'S TOP 50:
Love Will Lead the Way...to #1 that is..."Broken Bones" by Love Inc. holds the runner-up position for a third consecutive week but does manage to slide by Kristine W's "River Divides" on the airplay portion of the chart. Love is in position to take over the top spot next week, however, W has managed a fourth week atop the chart and is still very strong--and with records by Melissa Etheridge, Abigail, Mandy Moore, and Lee Ann Womack holding strong in the remainder of the top 6, the top spot next week is anyone's guess...
Once Again at #18...Da Buzz moves up eleven spots to #18 and takes COMBO HIT this week with their fifth Top 50 hit "Believe in Love"...#18 is where their last Top 50 hit "Tell Me Once Again" stalled on the chart...Da Buzz scored a #1 hit with their first charter "Let Me Love You" and a top 3 with "Do You Want Me"..."Paradise" peaked at #10 and they enter this week's chart at #46 with "Out of Words"...
Amazingly Absent From US Airwaves...Madonna's latest steals this week's AIRPLAY HIT with the addition of the Pet Shop Boys Remix to my collection..."Amazing" is slated as Madonna's next single in most of Europe but there are no plans to release a fourth single from MUSIC here in the US...Madonna has scored five hits from the album, including "Amazing"--"Music," "Don't Tell Me," and "What it Feels Like for a Girl" (#22 this week) all hit #1 and "Runaway Lover" hit #6...
A Definite YES!...SALES HIT goes to Amber's latest called "Yes"...the Hex Hector Remix of the song is charting and makes a healthy move up to #30 in its second week...Amber has been quite successful on the Top 50, including taking the #1 song of 1999 with "Sexual (Li Da Di)"...
Who's Debuting...Hazell Dean, who found great success in clubs in the late 80's and some success in 2000 on the Top 50 returns to the chart with her third Top 50 hit ("The Winner Takes it All" hit #9 and "They Say It's Gonna Rain" hit #3)...a 2001 update of her 80's hit "Who's Leaving Who" enters the chart as this week's DEBUT HIT at #44...Roxette bows at #45 with "Real Sugar" and Aubrey makes her Top 50 debut at #49 with "Still Waiting (Remix)"...
JELLY??...okay...so many of you are questioning right now (maybe even looking twice at the chart and rubbing your eyes in disbelief)...yes, that it Beyonce's...ummm...er...Destiny's Child at #48 with "Bootylicious"...at the beach (which is why my chart is late), the song was everywhere...it really isn't a terrible song and I've said before that it would probably do okay on the chart if it weren't for DC singing it...so the song makes it debut based on my exposure to it through outside forces...I expect the song may chart a bit higher, but it certainly won't go where "Independent Women Part 1" took the group...
