An Affair with the Chart...Kylie Minogue scores her fifth consecutive #1 hit on the Top 50 as "Love Affair" jumps from #8 to #1...Minogue's FEVER album has produced several top hits, including the record-breaking "Can't Get You Out of My Head" (9 weeks), "In Your Eyes" (7 weeks), "Tightrope" (1 week), and "Love at First Sight" (2 weeks)...Minogue also returns to the top 10 this week with the one-week #1 "Tightrope," fueled by a nifty mix that features another #1 Minogue hit "On a Night Like This" (from LIGHT YEARS)...I came across this mix on WinMX...Minogue also scores a sixth Top 50 hit from FEVER this week as "Come Into My World" debuts at #40, also fueled by a remix I downloaded from the net...I've also downloaded a couple of mixes for "Fever" and am still unsure as to which song is actually going to see an official release in October...I would expect "Fever" will surface on the chart in the coming weeks...

I Can't Live Without Movers (and Shakers)--God, can these things get any cornier!!??!...Several tunes take big jumps this week on the Top 50...Cher's fifth Top 50 hit from LIVING PROOF--"Love is a Lonely Place Without You"--continues an assault on the chart and moves up to #15 in its third chart week...Aurora's "The Day it Rained Forever" makes a move up to #30 this week (I also downloaded their next single, a ballad version of "If You Could My Mind")...Anastacia's "Paid My Dues" does well on its second outing on the Top 50 and moves up to #25 this week...the song originally peaked at #43...Corrina May's "I Can't Live Without Music," which is the track behind the name on Madonna's WinMX mis-downloads for "Die Another Day," makes its move to #27 this week...Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes 2002" bolts to #30 in its second chart week...

Pop Idols in America...Gareth Gates, who didn't chart at all with his cover of "Unchained Melody," sees better success with his second single "Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake)"...the song makes a healthy nine-place move to #33 this week...besting Mr. Gates, however, is Rik Waller with "Something Inside So Strong"...the song not only takes AIRPLAY/SALES HIT this week but it is also now Rik's highest charting hit ("I Will Always Love You" hit the top 40 earlier this year)...Waller, in my opinion, has a stronger voice that Gates and Pop Idol winner Will Young and any of the US American Idol stars...Young, however, could appear on the chart with his older single and UK #1 hit "Evergreen" (I really didn't give the song much of a chance as it's not my style but I downloaded it for my partner and he's been listening to it and it's really not bad at all)...also, look for Gates and Young to release a double-sided single in the Autumn called "The Long and Winding Road/Suspicious Minds"...

She's Got the Music in Her...Erin Hamilton takes COMBO HIT this week with her soulful house anthem "I Got the Music in Me"...Hamilton has never sounded finer and belts this one out among hard house beats...daughter of famed comedienne Carol Burnett, Erin is best known for her cover of "Dreamweaver" which was featured in the movie "Trick" and was a dance floor staple a few years back...she most recently charted with the top 5 hit "Melt" from her debut album ONE WORLD...

Sweet as Suga...The Sugababes feature the second single from their upcoming album ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES, due in the UK on August 26..."Round Round" debuts as this week DEBUT HIT at #37 and is the follow-up to their most successful single "Freak Like Me," which spent three weeks at #1...the girls have also hit the top with "Just Let it Go" and "Soul Sound" and hit the top 10 with "Run for Cover" and "New Year"...the group's first single "Overload" hit the top 30 (although it's become one of my faves by them)...."Round Round" should easily dart to the top of the charts...

Other new hits...Atomic Kitten, who exploded with "Whole Again" (#9) and "You Are" (#3), but fizzled with "Eternal Flame" and "It's OK (You're Not Here)" return to the chart with a rather enjoyable cover of Blondie's classic "The Tide is High"...the girls shine on this number and I can't wait to check out the remixes for it...should renew their hit status, missed by their last two chart entries...Prezioso debuts on the chart at #45 with "Somebody" featuring Marvin...this is the dance act's first Top 50 hit...
