Love Reigns...After maintaining a stronghold on the charts for the entire year 2000, Kristine W tightens her 2001 grip. "River Divides" blasts into the pole position in only two weeks, making it the fastest mover into the top spot in the chart's history. I expect a lengthy run at the top for this fine tune from the STRONGER Japanese import. And STRONGER is just what W is as she currently has a song that she wrote in about every ten positions on the chart. "Someone (Watching Over Me)" moves to #15 this week. At #29 is CeCe Pennsiton's "Lifetime to Love," co-written by Kristine W. Moving up to #38 this week is "Let Love Reign (Remix)," a circuit club remix of her recent three-week #1 smash hit. And making a debut this week at #46 is an update of her first Top 50 and #1 hit "Feel What You Want 2001." The remixes have been circulating UK clubs for a few months now and an official announcement of the UK single release of the song was made this past week. Unfortunately, because UK singles can not exceed 20 minutes in length, the single will feature several edit mixes rather than full club versions.

Them Bones...Love Inc. ties its peak position on the Top 50 this week as "Broken Bones" moves into the #3 spot. The group peaked at #3 in early 2000 with "You're A Superstar." I expect "Bones" to stay around for some time as it is one of my favorite songs of the year thus far.

Letting Go...The Sugababes managed a single week at the top spot and slip to #2 this week. I'm not sure that this song will quickly fade into Top 50 history, though, as it's airplay remains quite strong with the potential to continue. Gabrielle finally lets go of the top 2 as "Out of Reach" slides down to #6 after spending and amazing ten weeks at #'s 1 and 2. The song moved into #1 for three weeks, slipped to #2 for three weeks to allow Madonna her latest top hit, moved back into the #1 position for a single week, and then dropped to #2 for three additional weeks. I expected the remixes to fuel more weeks at #1 for the song, but after listening to them for the past two weeks, I much prefer the original ballad format of the tune.

Sticky Sweet...Hypnogaja and Melissa Etheridge hold steady at #5 and #4, respectively. "So Sweet" and "I Want to Be In Love" aren't gaining any points right now, but they are maintaining and should be forces to reckon with in the top 5 over the next few weeks. Etheridge could also get a boost at her album SKIN is released on Tuesday, July 10. The new video debuting on various video outlets should help the song maintain leverage as well.

Free and Proud...Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara (Remix)" manages a move of two positions this week despite heavy hitters entering the top 10. The song moves to #7 and although it could still pack a punch, will likely succumb to the packed top 10 in the next couple of weeks. Heather Small scores big and is "Proud" at #8 this week. The song is the third top 10 hit featured on the QUEER AS FOLK soundtrack ("Dive in the Pool" by Barry Harris featuring Pepper Mashay hit #10 and Kristine W's "Lovin' You" hit #1). N Sync holds onto the top 10, edging a notch to #9 with "Pop." This song may very well have run its course as several songs are ready to enter the top 10 next week (see below). Abigail returns to the top 10 this week with her latest single "You Set Me Free." Abigail last charted with the four-week #2 smash "If It Don't Fit." "Free" is the first Abigail charter that she has co-written.

The Top 10 is in the Pocket...Jessica Simpson says the top 10 looks "Irresistible" from the #12 position, where she lands this week--up five from #17. If the song makes it to the top 10 it will be Simpson's second top 10 hit. She hit #6 with "I Think I'm in Love With You" last year. Robbie Williams is singing "Let Love Be Your Energy" as he moves toward the top 10. This week his latest single moves from #22 to #14. Kristine W, as mentioned above, has "Someone (Watching Over Me)" and her chart record as she blasts from #23 to #15 this week. A little nugget by Mandy Moore moves a quick eleven chart places to #17 this week. "In My Pocket" is Moore's second Top 50 and highest charting single to date. I expect the song to storm the top 10 in the next week or two. It is also this week's AIRPLAY HIT. "Running" but not too far behind is Information Society's second remixed classic. The 2001 update of the late 80's hit makes it ten positions to #19 this week.

Clawing Its Way to the Top...Atomic Kitten's first Top 50 hit takes SALES HIT this week as "Whole Again" makes an atomic blast up ten places to #28. I was really hesitant to check out the song, but thanks to the chart clubbers at Yahoo! Top 40 Charts, I finally caved and actually like the song a lot. Gabrielle is "Over You" but not over her hit making. Her latest charter makes a ten place move to #30 this week and takes COMBO HIT. The song was remixed and is included in the recently released RISE REMIXES album. I expect this one to continue her string of successful Top 50 hits. Gabrielle had the #1 tune of 2000 with the title track from her last album RISE.

Taking it All...O-Town's second single finally puts them on the Top 50 map as "All or Nothing (Remix)" makes the DEBUT HIT this week at #40. The song really should have debuted last week, but I forgot to put it on the chart. Where I do enjoy the ballad version of this tune, I much prefer the remixed version and it charts based solely on that. Back at #43, Vanessa Amorosi makes a healthy debut at #43 with her third single "Have a Look." My Australian hairdresser's daughter sent her THE POWER, Amorosi's debut lp, and she let me borrow it to burn a copy. Vanessa has a lot of potential and a lot of abilities as a singer. Her voice reminds me a lot of Christina Aguilera, except Amorosi doesn't overdo it like Ms. A does. I would look for a recharting of "Absolutely Everybody," her #17 hit from earlier this year, and the Top 50 debut of her second single "Shine" over the summer. Definitely an album worth checking out.

Remixed for your listening pleasure...The rest of the Top 50 debuts include remixes of original song versions. At #44, Toni Braxton finally makes the chart with "Maybe (Remix)." This was another one that probably should have debuted on the chart last week. At #45, Da Buzz scores a fifth Top 50 hit with "Believe in Love." The song is not labelled as a remix because the Extended Mix is the album version of the song. Their album DA SOUND is in stores now. As mentioned above, a 2001 update of Kristine W's first Top 50 and first #1 hit "Feel What You Want" enters the chart at #46. Finally, "Idol (Remix)" by Amanda Ghost makes the chart as her second Top 50 hit. I've been listening off and on to the original version of the song for weeks now, but it just didn't click with me until I heard a club remix.
