It's Baltimore Gay Pride Weekend and I still have not moved...With the barbeques, the block parties, the parades, the festivals, and the polyurethane (no--not I'm not huffing, it's for my floors!), I can't wait to hear which songs from my chart, if any, I hear over the course of the weekend...here's this weeks' chart comments...

To Be Perfectly FRANK--It's A Boy Band Revolution...British boy popsters are invading the Top 50...last week, A1's "Caught in the Middle (Remix)" debuted at #46 on the chart and this week it makes an impressive move to #36 on the chart...A1's greater feat, however, comes at #35 where the follow-up single to CITM bows on the chart as this week's DEBUT HIT..."Make it Good (Remix)" is only the second Top 50 hit for the group...Also, Westlife makes a return to the Top 50 at #45 with "Bop Bop Baby (Remix)"...this marks the third appearance by Westlife in the Top 50 following "Swear it Again," which peaked at #29 in June 2000 and "My Love," which peaked at #17 in March 2001 (the group was featured on a mix of "Against All Odds" by Mariah Carey, however, that version did NOT chart on the Top 50)...the last boy group to hit the Top 50 was N Sync--earlier this year they hit #25 with "Gone"...my chart has never been exactly welcoming with regard to songs with male vocals, however, this new batch of tunes are really growing on me quickly...

Sounds Like...As usual, I find it interesting how songs with similar titles tend to be released at about the same time...here are some current examples: One Day in Your Life/One Step Too Far; In Your Eyes/In My Eyes/Open My Eyes; Take Me Away Into the Night/You Take Me Away; Alive Again/I'm Alive/Alive (JLO--not on chart); Just a Little/Just Like a Pill...

15 out of 22...In 2002, Kylie Minogue spent six weeks atop the chart with "Can't Get You Out of My Head" (#41), seven weeks at the top with "In Your Eyes" (#29), and one week at the pole position with "Tightrope" (#23)...now she racks up her fifteeth week at the healm with her current international single "Love at First Sight," which is set to debut this week at #2 in the UK...although I haven't researched this, I imagine this is some sort of a record...and I'm certain that Minogue's run at the top in 2002 is far from over with songs from FEVER just waiting for their run on the Top 50...next week, however, any of the top 6 could take the top spot, with bets on Minogue holding for a second week or Bellefire or Ronan Keating taking over...

Getting Over the Mountain...Sophie Ellis-Bextor makes a huge jump this week from #26 to #15 with "Get Over You"...the official UK single sports the B-side "Move This Mountain," which stalled at #37 for two weeks a few months ago...Ellis-Bextor is best known for her disco-driven smash hit "Murder on the Dancefloor," which hit #4 earlier this year...expect "Get Over You" to at least match the success of her first Top 50 hit and possibly surpass its peak as the wear factor on the new single seems to be a lot lower than that of its predecessors...SEB also takes COMBO HIT this week...

Loud and Clear...Pink isn't so M!SSUNDAZTOOD as her fourth Top 50 hit from the album "18 Wheeler" takes AIRPLAY HIT and rockets to #31 in its second chart week...Pink scored the first #1 hit of 2002 with "Get the Party Started" and has hit #5 with "Just Like a Pill" and #4 with "Don't Let Me Get Me"...while DLMGM was the second official US single from the album, JLAP sees a reversal this week and moves up to #34 from #39 with a bullet...the song is the official third single from the album and should see a resurgence on the chart in the coming week as my exposure to the song via music video increases (yes, I do occasionally flip between the morning news and jump start on VH-1 in the AM's)...

Reel Good Music..."You Take Me Away" by Reel takes SALES HIT this week and moves a whopping eleven positions to #32...the pop/dance tune is Reel's first appearance in the Top 50 and I took an instant liking to the song when I heard it...the Groove Brothers 12 Inch Remix is pretty decent as well...

Alive Again...Celine Dion debuts at #39 this week with what has to be her most powerful vocal performance since "Love Can Move Mountains" from her first huge English album...while I am not necessarily a Dion fan, I can appreciate when she is in top form (Love Can Move Mountains, It's All Coming Back to Me Now, All By Myself, To Love You More, and I Want You to Need Me) and on this gospel pop tune, she is right there...I'm am eagerly anticipating the remixes of this tune as I hear a grand gospel house track beating down the walls of the clubs...if Dion did music like this all of the time--instead of some of the narcissistic crap she records (read: A New Day Has Come)--she could very well rank among the most successful Top 50 artists...until that happens, however, I will just cherish the moments when she surprises me...

Auntie 'Em, Uncle Henry!! It's a Twister...Not quite, but you would think it would take a tornado to bring Liza Minnelli to the Top 50, however, a 2002 updated of her top dance hit "Losing My Mind" (written and produced by none other than the PSB for Liza's RESULTS album) makes its chart entry at #49...at #48, Alanis Morrissette scores a second Top 50 from UNDER RUG SWEPT with "Precious Illusions"..."Hands Clean" hit #11 a couple of months ago...
