The sky's the limit and it just presses on...On up the chart, that is...Georgie Porgie's debut Top 50 hit, the #1 Billboard Gospel House hit "Love's Gonna Save the Day" not only takes COMBO HIT this week but manages a swift move from #50 to #33...the song has been 'bubbling under' on my chart since JK included it on the 1992 retro dance cd (thanks John!) and finally made its debut last week...look for the tune to keep up a quick pace next week as it continues to move forward in a not-so-crowded chart...

All I want is a record contract?...Bellefire has received a lot of press in the past two weeks as the Irish group's debut UK single failed to hit the top 10 and they subsequently lost their record deal with Virgin (we can understand losing Mariah, but not his talented foursome!!)...their debut song, a cover of U2's hit single "All I Want is You" makes a spectacular debut at #22 (besting Sophie Ellis-Bextor's January 2002 #25 debut of "Murder on the Dancefloor" but just missing a tie with Kylie Minogue's #21 debut of "Tightrope" in March 2002)...if you haven't checked this one out yet, I definitely recommend it...

Covering the charts...Bellefire isn't the only debut this week that hums a familiar tune...Jan Wayne meets Lena debuts at #46 with a dance cover of Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart"...the song was a #1 smash for Nicki French in 1994 and 1995...Boyz with Toyz debut their latest, a cover of Ami Stewart's "Knock on Wood" (my fave disco song!), at #48...elsewhere on the chart, the Sugababes hold #1 for a second week with a combination of "Are Freaks Electric" and "Freak Like Me"...Mary J. Blige continues her rebound with the recent #1 hit "No More Drama"--the song samples the instrumental "Nadia's Theme" (best known as the old theme music to the CBS soap "The Young and the Restless") and moves up to #15 this week...TJ Davis is back up at #23 with a cover of Black's "Wonderful Life"...Ronan Keating is doing exceptionally well on the chart with a ballad and dance version of Garth Brooks' "If Tomorrow Never Comes"--the song moves up to #30 this week and is AIRPLAY HIT...Rik Waller's "I Will Always Love You" stalled after two weeks at #34 and tumbles to #47 this week...

Breaking it down...Probably one of the happiest/most energetic dance tunes of the year thus far belongs to Shakedown's "At Night," which steals SALES HIT and moves up a promising thirteen positions to #29...I'm hoping to hear this one this weekend at the beach (we're settling on our house at noon on Friday and then heading to the beach on Saturday to celebrate with our new neighbors!!)...

Success tastes so sweet...And Iio has it again with the recharting of "Rapture (Tastes So Sweet)"...the song moves up to #26 in its fifteen non-consecutive chart week...Dannii Minogue, featured on Riva's track "Who Do You Love Now?" is also enjoying a rechart as it blasts from #39 to #28...

Eur-a-hit...Jessica Garlick's "Come Back," the UK entry into the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest makes another terrific move, up ten to #21 in its third week on the chart...I'm sticking by my description of this song as Debbie Gibson meets country music...Faithless featuring Dido on "One Step Too Far" blasts from #44 to #36 this week, just as it scores the #2 spot on Billboard's Club Play charts...the song was a hit in the UK as well...

Returning to the Top 50...Marc Anthony makes a healthy debut at #41 with "I've Got You," the second single from MENDED ("Tragedy" hit #32 earlier this year)...Anthony has also charted with the #5 hit "I Need to Know" and the top 20 hit "You Sang to Me"...Sophie Ellis-Bextor scores her third Top 50 hit with "Get Over You," a single set for release in the UK in June...the song debuts at #43 and follows the #2 smash "Murder on the Dancefloor" and the top 40 "Move This Mountain"...and finally, Anastacia's latest, the theme to the 2002 World Cup Games called "Boom" makes its debut at #49...the song certainly would have bowed higher had I not downloaded it at the end of the week...look for this one to shoot for the chart success of the recent #1 hit "One Day in Your Life" (which is still at #2)...

Hitting a sour note...several songs on the Top 50 hit roadblocks on this week's chart...this doesn't mean the songs are finished on the chart, but it's a lot more difficult to rebound once you've hit that wall...here they are:
