After three weeks at #1, Gabrielle's biggest chart topper is ousted by the patient third official single from Madonna's MUSIC. "What it Feels Like for a Girl" moves into the pole position after a lengthy five weeks at #2. The song is pushed by the now available remixes--especially the Thunderpuss Mix. With Roxette's "Centre of the Heart" the closest major threat in point gains (it's at #14 this week), it is difficult to say whether Madonna can hold #1 a second week.

Gabrielle, Fragma, The Sugababes, and Steps could easily snag the top position from M as soon as next week. Essentially, with the once powerful top 5 seemingly out of steam with point gains, it is difficult to predict how the Top 50 chart will change in the coming weeks.

French Affair seems to have the year's surprise hit--the year's sleeper hit even. In its eleventh week on the Top 50, the group's debut Top 50 "My Heart Goes Boom" inches up to #6 in a top 20 that sees very little movement. This is promising for the little song that could as it could snowball the stagnate top 5 and keep moving up the chart.

Geri Halliwell scores her second top 10 hit as her version of "It's Raining Men" inches into the top 10 at #10 this week. Halliwell scored a #3 hit in 2000 with the smash "Mi Chico Latino" from her first album SCHIZOPHONIC. "...Men" is featured on the Bridget Jones soundtrack and will also be featured on Halliwell's upcoming second solo release.

Gloria Estefan returns to the top 20 for the first time since late 1998 when she hit the top spot with the dance hit "Heaven's What I Feel." Her last entry into the Top 50 was the top 30 "Don't Let This Moment End" in 1999. Melanie C also returns to the top 20 for the second time and the fourth time. "I Turn to You" was Sporty Spice's second solo top 20 and is now her fourth solo top 20. The song, however, takes a huge drop in point gains over last week's gains.

33 and 22...will Depeche Mode make it to 11? Depeche Mode's "Dream On" holds at #22 for a second week. Just three weeks ago, the song spent its third week at #33. After six slow chart weeks, Mandalay's "Beautiful" continues to make decent point gains and moves up to #23 on the chart.

Melissa Etheridge takes the COMBO HIT with her first single from SKIN, her new album due in July. "I Want to Be in Love" moves up to #28 this week. Leann Womak takes AIRPLAY/SALES HIT as "I Hope You Dance" rockets to #31 in its second week.

Sandy B. makes her debut on the Top 50 in a big way as "Nothingness" blasts into the chart at #34. The song is one of the year's top debuts, bested only by the #26 debut of "Let Love Reign" by Kristine W (#1 peak, currently at #44), the #33 debut of Da Buzz's "Don't You Want Me" (#3 peak), and Kylie Minogue's "Your Disco Needs You" (#1 peak, currently at #11).

Also debuting on the chart this week is the Top 50 debut of LA-based Hypnogaja. From their second album POST HYPNOTIC STRESS DISORDER and the movie VALENTINE comes "So Sweet." This band was introduced to me by a friend when I was in NYC a few weeks ago. The album is a constant source of dispute among myself and Scott as we are constantly arguing over who gets the album for the day. The album currently is not commercially available, but Hypnogaja will be making several appearances this summer. One that I am certain about in the San Fran pride festival on June 23(with a club date that night as well). THIS MEANS MICHAEL AND JOHN BETTER BE SENDING THE FEEDBACK TO ME AFTER THE SHOW!!) Anggun finally debuts on the Top 50 with "Snow on the Sahara (Remix)." The original was released several years ago and I just discovered a remix of the tune that I'm loving right now. Jessica Simpson makes a return to the chart with "Irresistable" at #50.
