One Day in Your Life Anastacia |

COMMENTARY ON THIS WEEK'S TOP 50:
Two week in your life...Anastacia keeps the pole position on the chart this week as "One Day in Your Life" becomes her highest charter, besting the one-week number one "I'm Outta Love"..."...Day..." has a ways to go before it tops the success of her debut hit..."...Love" spent, at the time, a record-breaking 27 weeks in the Top 50 (the record is currently held by Gabrielle's "Out of Reach" at 44 weeks)...Anastacia will face some fierce competition again next week as The Sugababes recent UK #1 "Freak Like Me" scoots up to #2 this week, Tiffany's "Open My Eyes (Remix)" blasts up seven places to #3, Pink's "Don't Let Me Get Me" moves up to #4, and Cher's "Alive Again" jumps up to #5...
Seeing Double...Several Top 50 artists are currently charting two or more hits...Kylie Minogue is currently in the top 10 with "Tightrope" and "In Your Eyes," at #6 and #8 respectively and is also sitting side-by-side at #26 and #27 with "Can't Get You Out of My Head" and this week's COMBO HIT "Love at First Sight"...Pink has the #4 spot with "Don't Let Me Get Me" while her recent #5 hit "Just Like a Pill" continues its rebound and moves up the chart to #19...Pet Shop Boys are holding down the #17 position with "Home and Dry," which hits a new chart peak this week, while that single's B-side "Sexy Northerner" moves up to #16...Cher's LIVING PROOF is very much alive as "Alive Again" moves to #5 and "A Different Kind of Love Song" hops nine positions to #21 this week...
Something Old, Something New...Jessica Garlick makes her Top 50 premier this week with "Come Back," our DEBUT HIT on this week's chart...a nice pop ballad, reminiscent of Deborah Gibson scores Garlick the #39 spot...Ronan Keating makes his second appearance on the Top 50, this time with a remixed cover of Garth Brooks' "If Tomorrow Never Comes"...Keating's first outing on the chart was "Life is a Rollercoaster" and it peaked at #20 in 2000...as "Eternal Flame" falls off the chart, Atomic Kitten debut their newest single "It's OK (You're Not Here)" at #50...while I don't think the song is that strong, it could grow on me overtime and with the right remix...Kitten charted at #9 with "Whole Again" and #3 with "You Are" but "Eternal Flame" stalled at #30...two top 10 singles return to the chart this week: at #44 is Iio's "Rapture (Tastes So Sweet)" which spent twelve weeks on the chart and hit #7 earlier this year...at #47 is Dannii Minogue on Riva's "Who Do You Love Now?"...the #3 hit, and "Rapture" are both being supported by their inclusions on recently burned cd's featuring new music...I don't expect the tunes will reach new peaks on the chart but will at least be around for a few weeks...
A Thousand Times...That how much I could listen to Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" and NOT get sick of it...from the girl who has been called a "happy Fiona Apple," this piano pop-rock ballad scores this week's AIRPLAY/SALES HIT and moves up nine positions to #20...it is Carlton's debut hit from her debut album BE NOT NOBODY...
And Five Makes Two...H and Claire, formerly of UK pop sensations Steps, score a top 10 hit with their debut duo single "DJ"...I would be surprised if this tune didn't hit #1 in the UK as it's a perfect pop-dance tune with the catchy lyric "Keep my body moving, turn the music up"...I expect big things to come from the duo on Craig's Top 50...the song moves from #11 to #7 this week...
Taking the plunge...You may have noticed that over the last few weeks, the Top 50 has seen more songs than usual plummeting from the top 10--db Boulevard's "Point of View" dropped 1 to 8 to 20 and to 33 this week..."No More Drama" by Mary J. Blige dropped 1 to 9 and to 22 this week...Lasgo's "Something" takes a dive after a single week at #2--the song falls to #15 this week...Alcazar's "Sexual Guarantee" dives to #36 from #14--the song peaked at #11 two weeks ago...Jody Watley's "16" spent the past two weeks at #25 and falls to #41 tihs week...this high turnover is unusual for the Top 50 and will likely disappear in the coming weeks as the chart becomes overloaded with songs gaining points--right now, out of the 50 tunes, 35 of them are bulleted, including all but 4 of the top 20...
The Way She Feels is Sexual...and getting old!...Amber's "We Need to Be Naked" slips a notch this week to #24 after spending a single week at #23...while the song has a great dance beat, I'm just tired of all of these songs about sex...while "Sexual (Li Da Di)" is an incredible song and was deserving of the #1 spot of 1999 on the Top 30 chart I compiled, I really think the originality of Amber's most recent releases is missing...I read an interview where Amber said that "Sexual" wasn't about sex, but rather how two people can be so in tune with another...however, songs like "Yes" and "...Naked" offer lyrics that do nothing for me...when your discography includes tunes like "The Colour of Love," "One More Night," "Above the Clouds," and "Taste the Tears," there's no reason for offering fans recycled crap...here's hoping that Amber's sexual revolution is over...

Until next week...
