One Day in Your Life Anastacia |

COMMENTARY ON THIS WEEK'S TOP 50:
Laying it on the line...for the third consecutive week, we have a new non-Kylie #1...Anastacia scores her second chart topping hit with the single "One Day in Your Life"...if you check out the 2000 year-end charts, you'll see that the soulful American singer scored the #6 hit of the year with "I'm Outta Love," a song that still holds the record for the most weeks to hit #1 (it hit the top in its 20th week) and the biggest move into the #1 position (#13-#1)...Anastacia has charted with a handful of other, not so successful tunes ("Made for Lovin' You" and "Paid My Dues" didn't even crack the top 30) and the #11 hit "Love is Alive"...the question now is: Can Anastacia fight off a sweet attack from "Freak Like Me" by the Sugababes?...the song moves up to #4 this week and coincidentally, the lyrics to the two songs have something in common (for the record--I thought about this before a similar incident was mentioned on Billboard Online's Chart Beat Chat)..."Freak..." starts off with "let me lay it on the line" and in the chorus to "One Day..." Anastacia belts "...you gotta lay in on the line..."...well, #1 is on the line and we'll see next week who claims the victory...
Not #1, but...Kylie continues her assault on the charts as the fourth Top 50 from FEVER debuts this week...at #37, and this week's DEBUT HIT, is the third UK single and second US single "Love at First Sight"...Minogue has occupied the #1 spot on the chart every week in 2002 but four (the first week of the year and the last three)...will her hit streak continue with her next single...
Sleeping with her eyes opened...Tiffany returned to the Top 50 in a big way back in November 2000 as she took a #1 hit with "I'm Not Sleeping," the first single from her comeback album THE COLOR OF SILENCE...As Tiffany makes headlines again, posing nude in one of those girlie mags this Spring, she scores another top 10 hit from the album..."Open My Eyes (Remix)," although not featured on the album, is available on SILENCE in its original form...if you haven't checked out the album, I definitely recommend it as it's really fantastic...Tiffany scored a #33 charter with "Piss U Off" from SILENCE in 2001...this is Tiffany's eleventh top 10 hit, following "I Think We're Alone Now," "Could've Been," "I Saw Him Standing There," "Feelings of Forever," "Promises Made," "All This Time," "Hold an Old Friend's Hand," "Hearts Never Lie," "It's the Lover (Not the Love)," and "I'm Not Sleeping"...
Stars are shining...Moby is not only charting with his highest career Top 50, but he scores his first top 20 hit this week as "We Are All Made of Stars" rockets ten positions to #19 and takes COMBO HIT...Moby, surprisingly, has only charted one other time-with "Bittersweet Symphony," which spent 2 weeks on the chart and only hit #47...
"A Different Kind of Love Song" is what Cher needs to rejuvenate LIVING PROOF in the US and the UK...so far, "The Music's No Good Without You" peaked in the 20's in the UK and "(This is) A Song for the Lonely" peaked at #85 in the US...Cher has had better luck on Craig's Top 50 as the former hit #1 and the latter is a recent #3 hit...Cher is currently charting "Alive Again," her current single in Germany and Switzerland, at #8 and "...Love Song" takes this week's SALES HIT...Cher certainly hasn't seen the success of BELIEVE with her latest (BELIEVE produced three #1 hits in 1999 and 2000)...Britney Spears takes AIRPLAY hit with the Freestyle Remix of her current US single "Overprotected"...I don't really like any other version of the song but I think the mixers do well with the freestyle mix (and we all know I'm a sucker for such freestyle acts as Noel, Rockell, the Covergirls, and Lil Susy)...the song moves nine places to #33 this week...
What else is new...Baz finally charts with the excellent "Believers"...this song has been on my playlist for weeks now but I kept forgetting to chart it...well, it finally makes its debut at #41...at #46 is the excellent new New Order single "Here to Stay"...and Mull Historical Society debuts on the Top 50 at #50 with "Watching Xanadu"...
In the coming weeks, look for new music from Atomic Kitten, Michelle Branch, S Club 7, Jamiroquai, Brandy, Simple Minds, and Haven...
