No More Drama Mary J. Blige |

COMMENTARY ON THIS WEEK'S TOP 50:
Seven new debuts and for the second consecutive week a new, non-Kylie #1...Mary J. Blige scores her first #1 ever on the Top 50 with "No More Drama" which easily scoots into #1 as db Boulevard's "Point of View" plunges from #1 to #8 (an unusually far drop from the top considering the top 5 currently holds two previous #1 hits)...Blige does have a shot at a second week atop the chart but with fierce competition from Lasgo with "Something" and Darren Hayes with "Insatiable" (at #3 and #4, respectively)...
Or in a freak occurrence...The Sugababes could nab the top spot with their fast-rising "Freak Like Me"...the song takes this week's COMBO HIT and catapults itself from #21 to #9...this marks the fifth appearance in the top 10 by the girl group, who scored hits with "Run for Cover" (#4), "Just Let it Go" and "Soul Sound" (#1), and "New Year" (#6)...the song is a cover of Adina Howard's 1995 hit of the same title...
After-Steps Success...H and Claire are the first members of the pop group to make it to the top 20 away from the fivesome...their first release "DJ" makes an impressive ten place move to #14 in only its third week on the chart...Steps had quite a bit of chart success from late 1999 through 2002 and in 2000 and 2001 the group charted more singles than any other act...Steps scored #1 hits with "One for Sorrow" and "Better the Devil You Know" and managed to hit the top 10 with "Tragedy," "Deeper Shade of Blue," "Stay with Me," "Love's Got a Hold on My Heart," "It's the Way That You Make Me Feel," "Chain Reaction," and "I Know Him So Well"...
Moby's star is shining brightly as "We Are All Made of Stars" rockets ten positions to #29 and takes this week's AIRPLAY/SALES HIT...Moby has been deprived of any Top 50 success, unfortunately, but should easily make hit status with this nugget...
Cher, on the other hand, is no stranger to chart success and continues her hit streak with "A Different Kind of Love Song" debuting at #40...she also moves into the top 10 this week with "Alive Again," the third top 10 hit from the album LIVING PROOF...Cher's hit streak should continue well into 2002 as she continues to release singles from the album overseas...at #42 is Britney Spears latest, a freestyle remix of her UK hit and current US single "Overprotected"...without the remix, it's pretty much standard Britney but the freestyle mix gives it a Rockell/Lil Susy flavor...very interesting!!...No Doubt's current big US hit jumps into the chart at #44..."Hella Good" is the first song from their latest album to chart...Mareeko's "More" debuts at #47...Aurora's "Dreaming" at #48, Paulina Rubio's "Dont' Say Goodbye" at #49, and Sheryl Crow's "Soak Up the Sun" at #50...Crow last charted with "Sweet Child O Mine," a cover of the Guns n Roses tune...

Until next week...
