Kylie Minogue spends a fourth week at #1 and "Your Disco Needs You" becomes the longest-reigning chart topper since Kristine W spent a seventh week at #1 with "Lovin' You" on the chart for week ending October 28, 2000. Minogue's hit is still very strong and, although records by Deborah Gibson and Madonna will challenge for the top spot next week, it is very likely that Kylie will maintain control of the chart. Minogue also holds the #2, for a second week, with "Light Years."

Britney Spears also scores another big week with the remix of her current single "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know." In its third chart week, the song blasts from #36 to #21 and scores the COMBO HIT award for a second consecutive week (the only other song to take the award two times so far this year was "If That Were Me" by Mel C). "Don't..." will more than likely become Spears' fourth top 10 hit and third top 5 hit. Just because the song is doing so well now, it isn't guaranteed a peak at #1. In 2000, only sixteen (16) of the forty-six (46) different titles to take COMBO HIT for at least a week went to #1. However, only one of the seven titles to take the award for two weeks during its chart run DID NOT make it to #1 (Olive's "I'm Not in Love"). Britney's chart life should be interesting. As it is now, she is still the most successful charter of the current teen pop princes and princessess.

Back in the top 10, Amanda Ghost enters the at #9, which isn't too bad for "Filthy Mind," which originally charted in 2000 and peaked at a very dismal #47. With its current point gains, the song could easily threaten the top spot in the next several weeks. S Club 7 makes a second appearance in the top 10 with their first Billboard Hot 100 hit "Never Had a Dream Come True." The song slips into the #10 spot this week, but does seem to be losing some momentum.

Bananarama scores its first top 10 hit since "Every Shade of Blue" hit #1 in 1995. "Careless Whisper" is being promoted as the duo's first single from their just released EXOTICA album. The album, for long-waiting fans, is a disappointment as it is comprised of a bunch of updated mixes of previous hits and a few mediocre new tunes. The album title and cover are very reminiscent of a certain album called EROTICA from 1992.

Taking both AIRPLAY HIT and SALES HIT award this week is the second single from The Sugarbabes. "Run for Cover" is a nifty little pop tune that is also available in a hard house remix. The title moves up to #32 from #41 this week. In other news on The Sugarbabes, the KLONE record label (known for dance mixes of popular songs such as Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and the AbFab theme "Wheels on Fire") has just released a single in the UK by a group called Sushi. The song is a dance version of The Sugarbabes first Top 50 hit "Overload." I haven't heard the song yet, but am definitely looking forward to snatching hold of it.

Gabrielle scores a sixth Top 50 hit with "Out of Reach." The song debuts just a week after her fifth Top 50 ("Give Me A Little More Time") debuted. Fragma's third Top 50 and brand new single is incredible. "You Are Alive" makes a debut at #43 and is so far my fave Fragma tune. I will probably be purchasing the album soon as I've heard nothing but wonderful reviews of it.

Depeche Mode returns to the Top 50 after being absent for several years. The band's last Top 50 hit was the #1 hit "It's No Good" back in 1997. "Dream On" enters the chart this week at #47. Macy Gray has two Top 50 charters this week ("Love Will Never Do (Without You)" from ICON is at #37). She enters the chart as a featured vocalist on Black Eyed Peas first Top 50 hit "Request Line." I have seen this video several times over the past week and I downloaded the song last weekend. This is just a little guilty pleasure. Great tune and Macy Gray sounds terrific.

Two new dance artists make their debut on the Top 50 this week. "Beautiful" by Mandalay enters at #49 and Celeste Prince's "Inside Your Secret" enters at #50. Anyone who likes a little groove in their life should definitely check out these two gems.

Finally, since this week's chart is dated March 31, 2001, I have compiled the Top 20 of 2001 Quarter One. Below you will find the song title, the artist, and the song's current point total. Most of the the titles will change position on this list as soon as next week as we are still very early in the year and many of the songs are leftover hits from 2000. One notable absence is Kylie Minogue's "Your Disco Needs You," which came in at #21 on the list. The song, remember, is only in its sixth chart week and although it has spent four of those weeks at #1, it doesn't have the benefit of a full chart run as most of these songs do. The songs that are still charting are highlighted.
