COMMENTARY ON THIS WEEK'S TOP 50:
Feel the FEVER...Kylie Minogue has the top 3 chart positions for the third consecutive week with "In Your Eyes" holding #1 for a sixth week, "Tightrope" moving up to #2 after two weeks at #3, and "Can't Get You Out of My Head" slipping a notch to #3 after five weeks at #2 and a nine non-consecutive week run at #1...while it would appear Minogue's grip on the top 3 is weakening, it doesn't appear that the top 2 are ready to make room for other songs...Flip and Fill's "True Love Never Dies" featuring Kelly Llorenna holds a second week at #4 and could move into the top 3 next week if it continues to move in on CGYOOMH...just behind the tune, however, Pink's "Just Like a Pill" and the terrific "Point of View" by db Boulevard are both ready to make a run toward the top and could very well heat up the competition for the top 3 spots on the chart in the coming weeks...
Not-So-Pretty-in-Pink...Pink's second official single from M!SSUNDAZTOOD moves eight notches into the top 10 this week..."Don't Let Me Get Me" sits at #10 and, as stated above, one of two current top 10 hits from Pink...Pink started 2002 with the Top 50's first #1 with the hit single "Get the Party Started"...it was Pink's first top hit, but she scored a #4 smash in 2000 with "Most Girls," which finished the year in the top 20...the other top 10 debut this week is the solo debut of Savage Garden's Darren Hayes..."Insatiable" makes a move from #13 to #9...SG previously hit #1 with "To the Moon and Back" and "Crash and Burn" but also scored top 10 hits with "I Want You" and "I Knew I Loved You"...
HIT after HIT...Mary J. Blige scores a point gain award for the second consecutive week as "No More Drama" blasts up to #12 and takes AIRPLAY HIT...I just can't seem to get enough of this song in both its original version and the various remixes that are available...look for this to easily become Blige's first top 10 hit...Lasgo's "Something" takes COMBO HIT for the second consecutive week as it slides eleven positions to #18...it is the group's first Top 50 hit...Cher's "Alive Again" makes a nine-place move to #34 in its second chart week and easily grabs SALES HIT for the week...look for this one to easily glide up the charts, just as her first two singles from LIVING PROOF have done ("The Music's No Good Without You" #1 and "(This is) A Song for the Lonely" #3)...
Sexy Debuts...Anastacia scores her second biggest chart debut with "One Day in Your Life (Remix)" bowing at #44...the soulful singer's debut single "I'm Outta Love" hit #1 in 2000 and finished at #6 for the year..."Made for Lovin' You" hit #44 and "Paid My Dues hit #43 in 2001...her cover of "Love is Alive" went all the way to #11...just behind Anastacia at #45 is the B-side to the single "Home and Dry" (at #42 this week) by the Pet Shop Boys..."Sexy Northerner" is one of two new tracks on the single (the other is "Always")...PSB's next album RELEASE is due in the UK on Monday, April 1st...at #47, Shakira's second single remixed marks her second appearance on the chart..."Underneath Your Clothes" follows the #11 hit "Whenever, Wherever"...Atomic Kitten, on the heels of their biggest chart success with the #3 "You Are" (sitting at #41 this week), finally chart with their former single, a cover of the Bangles "Eternal Flame"...the song enters the chart at #48 and is the third Top 50 appearance by the group ("Whole Again" hit #9 in 2001)...finally, Jody Watley's "Flower" slips to #50 as the second song from the FLOWER album debuts at #49...expect "16" to give Watley a little better chart success than the album's title track...
What goes up, Must come down...and several records slip this week after peaking last week...Melanie Thornton's beautiful ballad "Love How You Love Me" spent three weeks at #8 and falls to #13 this week...Lonnie Gordon's "A God That Can Dance" spent two weeks at #10 and is now at #19...Madonna's ninth Top 50 hit from MUSIC is the first not to hit at least #6...after a single week at #19, "Paradise (Not for Me)" slips to #20...Belinda Carlisle's second Top 50 in less than a year (she hit #3 last year with "All God's Children") called "A Prayer for Everyone" peaked at #12 last week and falls to #26 this week...the Lighthouse Family can't seem to break into the top 25 as "Run" falls after a single week at #25 ("I Wish...Free" hit #24)...S Club 7's pop number "You (Remix)" is the group's fourth single to miss the success of their first charter and #1 hit "You're My Number One"...Club hit #10 with "Never Had a Dream Come True" and barely got to the top 10 with "Don't Stop Movin'" and "Have You Ever"..."You" peaked at #23 last week...
On the Flip Side of Things...Stereophonics makes a surprising turn around to spend a third week at #35 with "Handbags and Gladrags," after slipping to #38 last week...the song was hurt by a competitive chart and while it's not likely the song will see massive chart success, it should be able to continue to blast forward next week...also getting a reprieve from a less crowded chart is Tiffany's "Open Your Eyes (Remix)," which has been staggering only a couple of positions a week the past few weeks...the song manages a seven-place jump this week to #27...
I'm hoping the next few weeks will see some more new music...some things to look for--the remixes of "Alive Again" and "A Different Kind of Love Song" by Cher; remixes of "Love at First Sight" and the Blue Monday remix of "Can't Get You Out of My Head" by Kylie Minogue; remixes of Pink's "Don't Let Me Get Me;" and the incredible mixes of Darren Hayes' "Instiable"...

Until next week...
