Kylie Minogue ties Aubrey's eight-week record at #1 this week as "Can't Get You Out of My Head" continues its reign of the chart--and there looks to be no end in sight for the international smash single...Minogue does score a second top 3 this week from FEVER as "In Your Eyes" makes a move from #5 to #3...the second single from FEVER has already hit #1 in Australia and will be released in the coming week in the UK...reports tell that the third single from the album will be "Love At First Sight"...I haven't heard anything about the US releases scheduled to follow-up the now #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 hit "CGYOOMH"...Minogue has had amazing chart success since she released the first single from her last album LIGHT YEARS..."Spinning Around" hit #7 while "Kids" (with Robbie Williams) hit #12, "On A Night Like This" #1, "Please Stay" #5, Light Years #2, Your Disco Needs You #1-7w, "Butterfly" #19-#8 (rechart)...Minogue also charted in 2000 with the PSB on "In Denial," which hit #4...if you were watching the television listings, you got a glimpse of Kylie performing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday and then an interview with Craig Kilborn on The Late Late Show on Wednesday-Thursday AM...

Gabrielle grabs a second week at #2 as "Don't Need the Sun to Shine (To Make Me Smile)" scoots up a notch and lands in the runner-up position...the song has had an amazing chart run during its 18 weeks on the Top 50--hitting #2 in late 2001 and then dropping to #15 in 2002 before rebounding into the top 10 again...Gabrielle has secured the top song of the year honors for the last two years...she is also at #8 this week with the second new song from her greatest hits package--"If I Walked Away"...as I'm aware that she tends to take breaks between albums, my hope is that we'll see something new from this sensational pop star by year's end...

Who's That Girl at #4...well it isn't Madonna, but it's a Madonna tune...with the highest charting cover of a Madonna song, Who's That Girl jumps up two notches to #4 with their terrific rendition of "The Power of Goodbye"--one of my fave Madonna tunes...last year, Lucrezia hit the top 20 with a dance version of the hit "Live to Tell" and Blond Ambition has seen dance success with "Crazy for You" and "Live to Tell"...

Sophie Ellis-Bexter continues to climb toward the top of the chart with the disco-infused "Murder on the Dancefloor"...the song moves into the top 5 this week at #5...Sky Tyler's "I'm Not Alone Anymore" moves up to #6 this week...it is Tyler's first Top 50 hit (expect more to come in 2002!!!)...

British pop act Atomic Kitten scores its highest charting single to date on the Top 50..."Whole Again" peaked at #9 early last year and to this day remains one of my faves...now, they come in at #7 with "You Are"...Kim Wilde's comeback hit "Loved" drops to #9 after sitting at #2 for four consecutive weeks...Wilde was last at the #1 spot with "If I Can't Have You"...

Entering the top 10 at #10 is the second top 10 from LIVING PROOF--set for release on March 5 in the US...Cher's latest is actually the first US single from the album--"(This is) A Song for the Lonely" premiered in the US on January's American Music Awards and has been making a buzz since...it's being called "Believe 2002"--hardly! but still worthy of top success...Cher scored six top 5 hits with her last album BELIEVE, including four #1 smashes--"Believe," "Strong Enough," "All or Nothing," "Love is a Groove," and "Dov'e L'Amore"...

Leann Rimes is having a great year on the Top 50 as her recharting "Can't Fight the Moonlight (Remix)" moves up to #11 this week...down the chart a ways, at #27, is this week's COMBO HIT, her latest "Soon (Remix)"...I expect the songs to compete for a top 10 position in the coming weeks..."CFTM" is already in its thirty-sixth week on the chart...if it maintains a position on the Top 50 for another seven weeks, it will tie Gabrielle's chart longevity record of forty-three weeks...

Jennifer Lopez takes AIRPLAY/SALES HIT this week with her recharting "Ain't it Funny"...it's amazing that I really didn't care for much of JLO's first album (I charted some songs but they had quick chart runs because I grew tired of them quickly)...this second album has produced two of my favorite songs of the past year--"Play" and her current charter...JLO did not make the Top 50 with "Love Don't Cost a Thing" and the Ja-Rule ruined "I'm Real"...for the record, "Ain't it Funny" is charting on its original album version featuring ONLY Lopez...it's like the Mariah Carey thing: if I wanted to buy rap music, I would buy an album by a rap artist...when I want to hear JLO (or Mariah), I want to buy their albums--without every song featuring some long list of rap artists...it's so frustrating...

Pink makes a splash as this week's DEBUT HIT with the second song from MISSUNDAZTOOD...following her first #1 hit--"Get the Party Started" (#47 this week)--Pink debuts at #42 with "Just Like a Pill"...now Pink has gotten a lot of critical acclaim for this album and a lot of flack for it as well...I, personally, think it's perfect and demonstrates versatility as an artist and not just a singer who can sound like everything else on the radio...kudos to Linda Perry for helping Pink create one of my fave new albums...Mandy Moore scores her fourth Top 50 hit this week with the sweet ballad "Cry" at #45...following on her coattails is the UK dance act Flip and Fill featuring Kelly Llorenna on their first Top 50 hit "True Love Never Dies"...

Well, again it was a busy busy week with little time to focus on new music...my hard drive on my PC at work crashed this week and I am anticipating getting a new PC on Monday...hopefully, next week's chart will feature lots of new entries as we have several songs that are ready to fall from the chart....
